So, which platform do you use now?
Every time I have free-trial students, I walk them through the materials on our platform. The daily news section is one of my favourites as I get to listen to them reading the news to me.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I’ve listened to this same article repeatedly…
He: Netflix has gotten nearly 16 million new subscribers in the first 3 months of 2020.
Me: Do you use Netflix? If so, what’s the last thing you watched? If not, why not?
He: Yes. I watched Korean drama the last time, but I also watch American series like FRIENDS.
Me: Haha! Iconic! Do you watch it while working from home? *jokingly*
He: Yes, teacher… *smiled sheepishly*
The conversation triggered flashbacks of me lying in bed with my laptop propped on the keens.
Netflix was my escape from the pressure at work.
The problem was I would wake up tired the next day after 4 hours of binge-watching every night.
Sitting in the back office, I anxiously waited for my Meet and Greet with the new director. Being the first on my team to meet him, I had no idea what kind of questions he may ask.
He walked in with a pair of dark blue denim jeans and launched into the story of him being in the company for over 10 years…
He: So, do you watch Netflix? *eyes sparkled*
Me: Umm, no. *awkwardly*
He: Oh, that’s rare. I guess you haven’t been converted? *surprised*
Me: Actually, I strayed from the religion after almost a year of faithful subscription.
He: Oh? So which platform do you use? *leaned in closer*
Films, movies and even YouTube videos have lost their appeal to me.
Call me sensitive, but I find moving pictures overly stimulating.
Stop trying to make me feeling something.
